Results to the Contest

Post by Pammark » Thu Jul 05, 2012 6:59 am

OK, here are the official results.

The rock weighed in at 2,440 lbs. No one guessed the exact weight, but we do have a winner. Robert Yoder is the winner with the closest guess of 2,330 lbs, just 110 pounds off.

With 22 votes the above graph shows the scatter of guesses. You can see most of the votes were on the heavy side. That may be because my pictures did more justice to the rock than it was worth.

You can also see the guesses were a nice staright line from 1,450 at the bottom to 4,600 at the top. Excluding the top and bottom guesses (outliers), the average guess was 3,237 lbs, 797 pounds too heavy. Of course that is not much rock to make that up.

I owe Robert Yoder lunch on me. I will send him a PM with the details. Hopefully Robert will send back a picture of him chowing down so I can post the final results later.

Oh, most important. My wife likes the rock in the landscape. At first she thought it was too big. It has gown on her as is.

Mark,

That was fun contest! I enjoyed seeing all of the guesses based on just your pics.
By the way, I took it upon myself to make a copy of the picture of the rock. I weighed it and it is not even close to 2,440 LBS!
But, I will not argue and will take your word for it!

Give me a few days to get time to go somewhere to eat. Almost to hot. I was going to guess around 3800 but called my brother in Geneva IND. who has the nick name rock man because he use to sell them all the time. He said it would probably be between 2ooo and 2500.This was a fun contest took a little stress off of me since we where on strike but went back to work today. The bus seat felt good to get back into.
