Guess the Weight Contest

Post by Pammark » Mon Jun 25, 2012 9:49 am

To all you crawler and rock pushers fans out there, here is a game that will really earn you some meat. Guess the weight of the rock and I will buy you lunch. Here is the scoop.

My wife wanted a rock for our landscape, so I got this gem at work from a cleared fencerow. I loaded it on my trailer and got it home. Before I unloaded it, I ran it across the local certified truck scales and got the gross weight. I then lifted the rock off the trailer (in the pics) and ran the empty trailer across the scales for the empty weight. Keep in mind, truck scales are + - 20 pound increments, nice even numbers.

I know the chain rigging looks shaky. I did not move the dozer as is, but made a chain sling to carry the rock to its final place.

Here is the left side of the rock hanging from a sky-hook.

Here is the right side with a yard stick stuck in for a size reference.

Here are the rules of the game. I will collect guesses until midnight July 4th, and the closest guess to the actual weight will win a free lunch on me. There aren't any penalties for guessing too heavy. One guess per member please. Multiple guesses will disqualify you.

The tie-breaker, if any, will be based on the date and time of the Post. The earliest wins the bacon.

Winner - If you are so lucky to be the winner, I will buy you lunch. I like to partonize the local Mom-n-Pop places, Greasy Spoons, Dive Joint, or whatever you call it. You know the places, where the dozen pickup trucks are parked at noon time. Eat a nice big lunch (don't forget dessert), get a receipt (circle your meal if you are with some buddies) and mail it to me for the refund. Include a picture (paper or electronic) of you collecting your reward and I will post it too. Include the name of the establishment if it is not on the receipt, so I can give them a big blug too.

Good luck, and may the best guesser fill your belly.

I PMd you my guess.....BTW I thought this was a great diversion from my work.

The easy part is the density of the rock- the hard part was guessing the rock dimensions given that all your photos are at oblique angles ;)

EDIT: The guess I sent by PM to Pammark earlier this week was 4500 pounds.
