Thanks 2006.
I'm hoping that jimmy fires up.
It's going to be close to my goal. I want it done for my county fair which is Aug. 13th-19th.
I think I'm going to make it, but it'll be close.

The nice thing about these diesels is they only need compression (heat), air (blower), and fuel. If there are no restrictions to the air and blower is working, fuel pressure on the feed line of at least 50 PSI, it makes compression, and the injector timing is close, she will fire right up.
Try to get video of the first start. I did that and it is now priceless. It is much better than trying to explain what happened. LOL

I hope I have a cameraman to get some video.
She has good compression. Took a brand new 1000 CA battery to turn her over good, you can hear it has good compression though.
Air should be all good. Injectors are timed according to the book.
Only thing I need to do is purge fuel system of air. I'm planning to crack the lines loose right at the injectors and crank until I see fuel.
Does that sound ok?

If your fuel pump is working and all of the plumbing is correct, you do not need to bleed it. It is a postive flow/waste fuel system.
Mine actually popped a few times on just the fuel left in the injectors from factory testing. I turned the fuel on and she fired right up.
With that said, there is one place that must be bleed. The book walks you through how to drain and prime the fuel filter. After you have drained off the bottom of the fuel filter, you open that screw on top until you have fuel with no bubbles. You are ready to start at that point.

On my most complete 440ICD the ground strap is just bolted to the side of the rear mount. If your strap is long enough, I would put it under one of the bolts that hold the starter on. The fewer joints in the starter power loop the better. Every time you change pieces of metal you loose some voltage, it may not be much but it is there. Most paint is an insulator so bare metal joints are best. Also copper conducts better than iron.

Thanks shinnery and 2006.
Good to know about the fuel system not needing primed really. I have the fuel filter full, I need to add some fuel to the tank.

I'm at a loss on how the spacers on the front engine bracket need to be. Does somebody have some pictures of one apart or something.
The spacers should be about 15/16 in diameter, drilled for a 7/16" bolt.
The book shows a 2 piece spacer, but I'm confused on exactly how it should be made so that the bracket will tighten to the side frame properly.
2006, I looked back through your assembly threads and think I see what looks to be one laying on your track, but I'm not sure.
Maybe Lavoy has one laying around.

hi whiteclipse,
i got 11/32 on the blower side and 5/16 on the guvner side.
dont force or try to draw them together with them big bolts, as i was doing that and just as i was getting tight i snapped off the mount ear,,, didn't think i was putting much force on it,,, so went back and loosed evrything and started again, these are the spacer measurements without any added stress and it looks good, front nose mounted with ease and also no space to draw up.
440icd/602/8a,,440icd/831/ripper,,440icd/831/3pt.,misc. 440 parts, i have 5 of these now, but i can stop anytime

Thanks for the measurements pop pop. I did some measuring and I think it was nearly what you came up with.
Dad made some spacers for it and they worked ok. Not sure if it's done correctly but I'm going to keep my eye out for the correct spacers.
