My new toy

Post by Lavoy » Mon Jul 16, 2012 8:08 am

Here is a pic of my new toy. Have not got it home yet, maybe later this week I will have time to go and get it. It needs clutch work or adjustment on one side and a complete fluid change, then time to play with it.

Nice looking dozer Lavoy.
You are lucky to have so many crawlers in your area, it seems like their almost no exist around here.

The one in the pic is 3 hours from me, the other two came from TExas and Colorado.
Never was many of these around here, just too small. Some East of me in MN, but many of them lived their whole life in the woods, so not much left of them.

That is a nice one I would have to think of putting the 6 way hydrolic on it.

That is a thought too, need to get it home and play with it for a while first. It appears as though it has non-stock hyd valve on the crawler, so would want to put factory parts back on if I put the 6 way on.

Lavoy,

It does not appear to have the tilt/angle seat like the 440 ICD in the other picture either. You could add it I guess..............
1959 JD 440ICD w/64 Power Angle Tilt Blade
1959 JD 440ICD w/63 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 440IC w/602 Manual Angle Blade

1950 JD M S w/M-20 Mower
1952 JD M W
1955 FORD 640 (burns the most fuel)

The tilt seat was a very rare factory option.

Well, 8 hours, a tank of fuel, a plate of quesadillas and 5 bottles of pop later, it is home. Got back too late to play with it too much, but will definitely be pulling both finals next week.
Left clutch had been "rebuilt", but just not adjusted  . Next week I will pull it apart and "rebuilt" it with new parts. Obviously it had been patched together with a new piece or two, never had the fingers set with the gauge, nor anything else in there cleaned and adjusted, so I get to do it all over again, yippee!
Steam cleaned about 100lbs of sand and dirt off of it tonight, what a difference that makes. Pulled the canopy and winch off, I am not going to use them. Might put a Gearmatic on it later on this fall, but nothing for now, not enough time.
Lots of little tinkering stuff I have found so far, and lots of fluid changes needed, but would do that anyway on a new crawler.
Will post more pics later.

Well, the old girl lives again. I see my other post with some of the pics completely disappeared, so will post them here when I get them downloaded.
So far I grubbed out almost 1000' of Lilac bushes, so it is getting a work out. Carb is literally giving me fits, just can't seem to find the problem, oh well. :x

Great looking old machine Lavoy. Not too many originals that straight. By the time they get to be the age of that machine they are usually in the same shape as I am......wore out, and beat to pieces.

For the most part.... I usually only show my ignorance when I type on this keyboard, talk to my wife, and/or am handed an open mic.

I have to ask...what series/model # of dozer is in the pic?

Thank you for being patient with me.

Kedorland The only stupid question is the one unasked. I am going to make a SWAG and say it is a 440IC, or 440 Industrial and C for crawler. The absence of a D means it is a gasoline not diesel crawler. And it is a 58 or 59 because the throttle is in a different place on the dash for a 60 model. Also has reverser and deluxe seat. I think that is known as a 605 blade plus root grubber.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
