People Hauler Parade Wagon

I pulled another peice of junk out of my fencerow and decided to paint it up. I got such a good response out of my Model A Parade Wagon last year, I decided to do it again.



This is an IH wagon that had the spoked wheels welded up with 20" truck rims. I only had this wagon in my junk pile for about ten years or so.



I mounted up the front tires and got the gear on wheels again.



Add a little sanding of rust and red paint and she looks almost respectable again.



Note how the spokes are welded inside the truck rims. Someone put a lot of effort in redoing the wheels. I thought it was quite unique, so I painted the inside truck rims red and spokes silver. The wheels run on two sets of roller bearings, not tapered or anything. The wheel does have a little side slop in it. Fancy hub cap screws on.



I built a box inside the wheels and built up from there. The 2X4 joints are notched, glued and bolted for strength. I tapered the back rests for comfort.

Like before, my wife was so impressed, she had to stain it. This picture shows the rear section with the steps in the down position. Easy to climb in.



Swing the steps up and they act like a tailgate for safety.



We are ready for the next parade.



Go ahead, climb aboard. Did you bring any candy to toss?

I figure this People Hauler will hold 11 on a side, depending how big their ass is. 22 in all.

The new wagon and my Model A wagon are already in demand for the local Christmas Parade in early December. Let the good times roll.

Nice job on the wagon! I am curious what do you plan to pull it with ?

It depends on the parade. For the town holiday parades, it is most likely a pickup truck. But for the local tractor parades, it is something else.

I have a choice of a Model AA doodlebug (cut down), a Ford 8N, a Ferguson TO-20, a Gibson garden tractor, or one of my regular farm tractors. The point is, it hauls candy tossers and the crowd loves it.

I can sure see why the crowd would love it. I am on the search for a wagon or flat bed sleigh to use for rides at my cabin. I hope to pull it around with a 350 crawler, around the lake with friends in the winter. I like the seating design you used, and I hope to do something similar but want to add some lights and a wood burning heater in the middle somewhere for cold nights. I always kept a fleet of vintage snowmobiles running for the guests but, we have all slowed down to where crawler speed and a hot drink is more to our liking. Let the good times roll !

Our club uses a similar wagon at many of the local fairs held state wide. On average we can haul 70 people. I figured that my 60 was moving about 22,000 pounds at the last fair.

I think I might go with a sleigh instead of the wheels. I found this for sale near here, and it would do nicely for pulling behind my 350 in the winter. I really like the look of Marks wagon and I might be able to do something similar with the red sleigh runners in the photo.



I hope to have a look at it next week. With luck the wood will not have much rot but we will soon see.
