My new crawler skates

Post by Lavoy » Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:10 pm

I got sick of sweeping under a dead crawler, so made up a pair of crawler skates. The channels are 1/4" plate, 10" wide, 2" sides, with 4-1100LB casters on each one. There is 2 X 2 X 1/4" wall square tubing between the two to tie them together and prevent them from tipping. Drug the whole crawler outside for steambath, and swept all the crud and floor dry that had been sitting under it for two weeks.

Just as I was thinking of an air bag between the belly pan and a heavy sheet of steel under that .Then when the dozer starts heading down you just air it up and slide it away .Would have saved me a lot of fooling around last week any way! As we discovered Deere 550J dozers are heavier than water no mater what you do We got water and mud three feet up left door and the computer got wet [was 18 inches under water]so the 550J just quit by luck the operator could get out the right door .No photos as this might embarrass the owner and or operator [yes In that order!!].Digitup.

The 200 excavator was several miles down the road at the time it saved the day but the driver got mud to the eyeballs hooking it up .Every thing was going good till he slipped on the track and fell in he was heading for the cab after and got told he was riding in the back of the truck home Folded the back seat down and made him lay on the cargo rack I ran the Deere out of it's hole or the dozer would have been a mess inside from him We didn't need mud inside and out.I think only his pride was damaged ! .Digitup .
