450 winch mount

Post by milkie62 » Tue Jul 16, 2013 11:29 pm

I wish I did have a 450 but do not have any dozer yet......
I do have a question though.Areas that I would be dozing are a bit mucky, not deep but could cause a problem for some of the smooth track machines I have seen.My question is could a 12 volt winch be somehow mounted on the front or back of a 450 dozer to help get it unstuck ? Hope this is not a dumb question ...Thanks Ed

Not a dumb question, but the biggest 12 volt winch probably wouldn't do much of anything pulling out a stuck 450. Their ratings are so grossly optimistic it isn't funny. We have had 9-12,000 lb electric winches for years. The Gearmatic 8A on my brother's 420 is rated at 9,200 lbs first wrap, and if you had to equate it to an electric winch, I would call it at least a 20,000 lb.
