I purchased this last year at a Richie Bros Sale....
the date on the photo is wrong

Now as of today it looks like this....

As soon as the ground freezes a bit I am going to push a few stumps. I have a rops to install before we get to the real work clearing blown down forest.

I would think it would be easier to remove stumps when the ground is soft.

I lkike to have a few inches at least of frost so as not to tear up the forest floor with the grousers. The stumps come out just as easy it seems with the frost down up to a foot deep. Many of the stumps are up to 30 inches in diameter and were blown over so are half out already. When we first cut the trees off the stumps many flipped back into the hole, and are not well attached to the ground on at least one side. Our 20 acres is about half and half for natural beauty and the other for future cabin lots. So the winch has been nice where we are trying to remove the mess without destroying the forest and the dozer will be great for clearing where the cabin lots and roads need to be built.

The tough ones are those that broke off, the ones that blew over are much easier. I have about 100 of the big spruce stumps to push out. the others can stay and rot naturally. The smaller Aspen and Birch will usually come out with the winch.

Nice Deconversion

Canopy and winch would really finish up your deconversion process.

Check and see if it has a positive air shut off under the hood. You may want to remove it as the can come loose over time and allow dirt to be sucked into your engine.

I think you will be happy with how much work can be done with a 450 versus a 350.

Thanks Jason, I am excited to give this dozer a workout. I will decide soon if the canopy from the 450b loader(nicer) or the 450 outside dozer(needs a bit of modification to fit) will go on it.
The positive air shut off is there, in front of the turboI think, and it has a cable that when pulled it kills the engine???? Why did they install it, for transport?

I bent the cable when removing the boom, so If I dont have to put a new one on, all the better.
The cable is in the center of this photo.

A winch sounds sweet, do you know where I might get one?

The problem for me however is that the grousers on this dozer will be a problem in the summer if I move it around the property. As well I really like the plan for putting the grapple in the front of the winch crawler. ??? I have not done this yet but I bought a heavy root graple.

Positive Air Shutdown

Post by JWB Contracting » Thu Oct 24, 2013 7:03 pm

These are requirred for oilfield use. When working around natural gas or flammable gasses a Diesel engine will run on natural gas even if you shut off your key switch. The positive air shutoff cuts off the air and kills the engine.

If your engine dies for a unknown reason check the shutdown, they can trip from time to time. There should be a spring loaded reset handle in it, you might have to your hood to do so.

You are in luck on mounting a canopy as your machine has the front mounting pedestals in place. I would convert the loader canopy as a dozer canopy normally has a better resale value.
