Track pin press

Post by JWB Contracting » Sat Mar 22, 2014 11:47 pm

Here is a fairly low cost track pin press made for 350 and 450's. My dad had the local machinist fabricate it for him. We had the threaded rods, cylinder and pump on hand. Pressed a set of rails together and removed 2 master pins from other sets today.

It is capable of removing non master pins on a D4. Our Vermeer track plow has a very short track adjustment cylinder so we has to remove a link.

Nice pictures. I just built one like it, but with a third plate with a hole through it to lock it to the chain. It's designed to use a fifty ton manual jack along with different size punch bars.
How sad it is when one sees only the machine and not the artistry of heart and soul that designed it.

Hi guys-

I might have missed the last discussion on that one, but can you provide some specifics about size and grade of threaded rod, cylinder rating, etc.? I am only interested in one that can push out master pins so doesn't have to be too beefy.

I don't have the specs. The rods and cylinder were acquired along with surplus CN Rail rolling stock. They were used previously to pull rail road track together.

Are you using a bottle jack on it's side?
