Hi,
Aargh! Blinded! I am blinded by the bright yellow thing this morning! It is like looking into the sun!
So. That is what they look like with paint on them!
Seriously now. Very nice!

Hi,
Yeah! I don't know of any tricks to accomplish that one. Tain't in the manuals, either.
I changed the oil in my 420c a couple weeks ago. I am always amazed there is a bit of yellow paint left on the insides of the track frames. Of course, I only see it after crawling under to get at the drain plug. The rest of the track frames are bare. Well, usually covered in dirt. So, not really bare.
I don't know as I will ever paint it. Even if I have to really tear into it to fix something. I am rather used to the way it looks. It has been at it since 1958 to get the look it has. I keep it under cover so the main use for paint (weather protection) isn't so important.

That thing looks amazing.
Do you plan to do work with it?
Also, what are the plates with "eyes" bolted to the back of the final drives?
Did you make the support bars that run from the final drive up to the fender or are those factory?

Hi,
Once again, I have to say how nice that looks!
That is a sharp contrast to my 420, which has slowly either lost her paint or it has faded into a different color. Especially the yellow stripe, which is now white. And, the green is so dark now, you'd be forgiven if you thought she was an Oliver.
I am not going to insert any pics, because it just wouldn't be right for mine to detract from this excellent job. So, for those now curious, here is a link:
http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/ ... php?t=4674
I have been using mine every few days for the past month. It still runs well enough that I don't need to get into anything. And unless I do wind up having to pull it apart, I won't be painting anything. I just can't stand the concept of what I call a 'rebuild in a can'.
Edit: My long term plan is to reacquire a 350 with outside mount blade (like I once had) and then retire the 420 to go to shows. Preferably just how she is, so she shows how her working life has been. Also, shows how a machine will hold up if one is decent with the maintenance and does not overwork things.

Wow that is sharp- almost looks like a shiny new toy if you didn't have the background for scale reference!
