Other engine ofr 1010

Post by John Morkovsky » Sun Mar 01, 2009 8:04 pm

What engines ( if any ) can be put in a 1010C with reverser ? We have a nice 1010 with the gas engine which burns a quart and a half of oil per hour and wonder if there is another engine that would be more trouble free.
jd70p, jd420c, jd530, jd730rcde,ih806?

A rebuild kit should not be all that much .Look around for a rebuild kit for that motor I am not shure what cubic inch that one is but Mother Deere as well as others should have the kit .Heck Lavoy should have the kit for that old Deere. What is the price on one Lavoy.Digitup.

I've never seen an engine kit offered for that engine . . . ever . . . - from Deere or aftermarket. Individual parts are available, though.

A 1010 gas or diesel,2010 gas or diesel, and many Deere combine engines will bolt in. The combine engines seem to be more common in good condition.

430 Wheel tractor with reverser

Post by digitup2 » Mon Mar 02, 2009 6:11 pm

Lavoy my neighbour has a 430 tractor with a reverser in it .He told me this came in this modle .Is this the same reverser as in a 430 crawler .He said they were a real loader tractor at this point .I never realized that John Deere put that in a farm tractor at this early a point [1959]I guess it was in the crawler so it should fit right in a wheel tractor as well. You learn something new every day .Digitup.

Yes, same thing. Remember, the crawler is just a wheel tractor on tracks, so many of the things the crawlers had, the wheel tractors had.

Do you have a source of somebody that actually has an aftermarket kit or are they just mixing and matching aftermarket and OEM Deere parts and boxing it all themselves? If you've found someone that's actually remaking some of those parts, I'd be interested in knowing who or where. I do know that some Chinese companies were making some of the pistons. But, Deere never offered an engine kit for the engines even when 1010s were new, and as far as I know, Deere was the only place that made or now makes the sleeve decks. Subsequently, there was never a complete kit with aftermarket parts. Maybe things have changed recently? Last I checked, about two years ago - there was still nobody making aftemarket sleeve decks - and - no aftermarket suppliers for some of the crankshaft main bearings in early serial # 1010 gas engines.

They are assembling the kits from various sources I assume.
