350C LGP steering issue
350C LGP steering issue
Hi, I am apparently going thru a cleaning out the weakest links on my machine. So far I run it for a few hours and blow a hose, or find a loose hose clamp , etc. This last event, I had a hose come apart that goes to the oil cooler (reverser oil) underneath the radiator.
Question: my service manual does not show a pic of the actual bottom of the radiator, nor the hoses/lines that connect it. Not knowing for sure. It looks like one leg is a hard line, while the other has a hard line that goes into a hose w/clamp right next to the clutch pedal. This time one of the hoses seperated half way to the radiator (metal tube splice w/clamps)
Is this someone's cob job? Should it be a hard line all the way to the radiator?
Once I reconnected the hose, and topped off the fuild in reverser, all was normal again. Of course it was back in on my property on a wet muddy logging road I ran it for about 40 minutes just clearing out another old logging road (pushing off some old logs 6-10") and cleaning out overgrown brush, etc. Without any notice, I lost steering. No bang or noise associated with anything breaking. I can go back and forth but not steer. I have OK drive power straight and reverse. Left lever has no effect at all, right lever, starts to stop the right track, and drive bogs down. Reverser fluid dropped to low mark, so I top it off again, but no remedy there.
Any ideas?

thanks on the link. It may have been repaired with hose at one time, and they used a spline to make it easy to fix. I may replace that one section with hard line. Both lines to the oil cooler switch to hose just before the cooler.
I haven't been out back yet to look further on the machine yet. I don't recall any odd feeling in the levers. As I read thru the manual I see that fluid exchanges with the reverser. Due to the original loss of fluid, do I need to cycle thru somehow,? air bubles? Now that the machine has sat for a bit. I will go back and recheck all my fluid levels along with brake linkage.
Thanks
Mike

Went back this afternoon, fluids are good, brake linkages all look normal. What I have found is the machine only has power on right side. I have no braking or power on left side. When I pull the right steering lever, the left track vibrates and tightens up like it wants to go, but that is all it does. when I pull the left lever, I have no braking and the track moves freely while the right side powers up in either direction.
Coupler? Something buggered up in the left drive? Or do I look a t something else in the left clutch/brake.
The machine is back in the woods, so a tear down means getting it pulled out by another dozer.
Any ideas?

There is no high pressure in the oil cooler lines sometimes manufacturers put steel lines in for vibration purposes or steel line cools oil as efficient as a cooler does in the short run running along a frame or large length of steel is a good heat sink as well as when running steel line past the motor is safer then rubber line when excess heat is involved off the motor it is just better to use steel line at that point where a oil cooler can warm oil to running temps and a steel line can absorb excess heat in cooler weather .This is not uncommon in any machine but that system is low pressure and high flow so you don't need the high pressure fittings and it may be larger than the hydraulic lines to maximize flow .Maybe you should look into why you have air getting in hydraulic system if the air isn't leaving quickly find out why .Digitup.
thanks on the oil lines answer. The reverser is working ok I think. At this point I have nothing being transfered to left side (independant brake or power)

Transmission & reverser levels are OK. I checked the steering valve, and it appears ok. Any way to look at the piston function without pulling it apart? I currently don't have pressure gages and the machine is stuck back in the woods?
