Lost Identity

Post by cdunn » Sun Feb 21, 2010 2:01 pm

I just bought a 350(straight) diesel, with an inside track dozer blade. The engine needs a complete over-haul, which I knew about when I bought it. The problem is both the serial number for the tractor and the one on the engine are missing. (strange as it may seem) I'm going to need an over-haul kit but not having these numbers makes getting the right kit problematic. Is it possible to determine which kit by disassembling the engine and looking at parts. I believe the early engines had a single seal on the piston sleeves, while newer engines had at least two seals. Are there other parts which may indicate which kit to buy. I know serial number problems have been discussed on the forum before but, I couldn't find one that fit this stuation. Are there any casting numbers that might help.
Also, I assume I will need to remove the blade in order to remove the engine. Doesn't seem like much room, even with it off. Any tips on blade removal and reinstallation appreciated.

I think we can figure out the parts you need by what you find when you tear it down. When you get to that point, let me know, and I will call my engine guys.
