JD450 Stalls when put under a load

Post by nathan619 » Sat Oct 30, 2010 12:04 pm

I have a 77 JD450 Dozer that seems to not be getting enough fuel. It'll stall when turning, climbing, above 2H gear, ets...

Are the problem started, we replaced the fuel filters and bled the system. We removed the diesel line from the injector pump and it shoots fuel out pretty good.

Do you think my injector pump is bad? Or how can I check it? Or do I just replace it with a rebuilt or used one?

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate this.

The line I took off to check for fuel was the one on the bottom. I believe it is the fuel inlet line. (see picture below)

How would I know if I have a "DB" pump? I don't see how a mice could get up there but I've seen stranger things. I'll research that a little unless I hear back that I don't have that type pump.

How would I check the injectors?

Here's a couple of pictures I took of the pump.

I just thought of something else that might matter. When this started, I was actually using the dozer at the time. It was running fine for a hour or two and all of a sudden started having issues under load.

You are right. The model number on the injection pump is CDC431-3DG. How do I know for sure the pump is bad because it looks like a replacement will be in the ballpark of $800 and I'd hate to get one and it be something else.

My dad told me something the other day that I'd forgot about. When he described the problem to someone else, he said it sounded like the governor wasn't working (needing more power under load) and it looks like that is part of the injector pump I think. So, does it still seems like the problem is the injector pump.
