changing out steering clutches 1970 350
I have parked the crawer on a small concrete slab just big enough for the tractor and motor cycle lift can I do the job with the lift? The service manual said to remove the fuel tank is that necessary?

Best to do so
We find it is best to remove the side boxes (hydraulic or battery) and the fuel tank. Much faster. If you are a glutton for punishment or have a helper you can remove and install without a crane. Make sure to drain you fuel first before attempting to remove by hand.
We weld a small ubolt or clevis on the top of the tank when using a crane. I would not recommend welding on the fuel tank unless you have done this before. It drives me nuts when my dad welds on our equiment like this but we bought our stuff to work and it does speed tank removal. We used to have to rebuild our 350C widepad from the frame up every second year, and we have had them in service for 30+ years.[/i]

My dad and I just the the finals on my 1968 350. We did the hydraulic tank side first and elected to leave it on...big mistake that was an absolute pain the hind. On the battery box side we took the battery box off and it cut the friggin around time in more than half. We never took the fuel tank off (we did empty it) but DEFINITELY take the tank and battery box.

Thank you guys are helping me alot with the dissembing. Will this work in lifting the back of the tractor up? Put a jack on each side of the Hoe support hooks and slide 8x8 blocks in the center of the transmission, it looks to be strong enough. You guys leave the spprocket on with the finals with a bike lift that may be awkward for me.

Sprokets
I would remove the sprokets as well, in fact i think you need to as the final drive has dowels and must come out straight.
I would recommend using a shop crane. We attached a braket that we attach to the outer bearing cover (just angle iron with two holes drilled and a hook or loop for lifting). You do not want to bend the tube which the cluch drive goes thru. Take your time and make sure to pull it out as straight as possible.

JWB Tthank you. Should the finals come off fairly easy. I can pull my truck close by an pull it out with come along. The final will be straped to the motor cycle lift it has 4 small wheels I hope it works. Will there be any settings when I start putting the pressure plate ,clutches an steel plates back in, other then setting the steering an brake adjustment. I just found on a old post where Levoy has a gauge for sale to ste the pressure plate.
