my new 350 dozer

Post by Paul45 » Mon May 02, 2011 5:41 am

I just bought a 1966 350 dozer with a manual 6 way blade and a winch. This machine has manual adjusters for the tracks, is it as simple as adjusting the big nut on the threaded shaft?
Can someone tell me about the winch i have? it has a lever on the left side that the previous owner said was for operateing the winch, but he said the winch has a seal leak and was locked by over tightening the brake and he never use it. does anyone know if parts or seal kits are still available for this and where to get them.
Also need a muffler for this three cycl, gas motor, does anyone have a replacement number? Thanks in advance for your input. :D
thanks Paul

Go to a autoparts store, they will be able to sell you an aftermarket. Otherwise go to any Deere store and pay the Deere price for the muffler.

The only 350 mufflers available are from Deere.
As far as winch parts, I would check with Deere as well. I have some parts avaialble aftermarket, but not much for the Deere winches.

First you need to know if it's the 3315 "power winch" or the 3310 "manual winch". The manual winches were not common, but were used on early 450s and 350s. The main difference is that the "power winches" had their own self-contained hydraulic pump and system to run the brake and clutch. The "manual winches" used a system more like the brakes in a car where you had muscle it with a big lever.

I can help you with the "power winch" if that's what you have. If it's just the brake cylinder leaking, you can get one from deere and they're not too hard to put in. If the brake band is soaked in oil, that may have to be replaced too though.

That's the 3310 manual winch then. I don't know much about them, but it's covered in the service manual for my 450 if you need me to look anything up. You can probably still get the seals for it from Deere. Just go to jdparts.deere.com and search for model 350. The 3310 winch parts are listed under the WINCH section for it.

I have a muffler for a 350 gas engine that I bought new from John Deere. It,s in excellent condition. Call me at 906-482-8079 if you would like to buy it. I'm located near Houghton, Michigan. Finnsawyer

I just read about your problem with the 3310 manual winch. I have one that is apart and has all of the parts minus the clutch cover.

If the brake band is soaked in oil, that may have to be replaced too though.
I've had good luck "cooking" an oily winch brake band with an acetylene torch to bake off the oil. Keep the torch moving and the banding material turns black or coffee color. Wire brush/sand off the soot gently and re-install. It is a lot cheaper than a new one, and I've had a number last for a long time after this treatment. Good luck. Paul

Paul, did you get that track adjusted? If you have a nut to adjust then it is not like any 350 I have seen before. Usually the adjustment is done with a regular grease gun that you use to fill the nipple on the track adjuster.
