exhaust question
Getting ready to put the hood back on my 350b and not sure if I'm missing something [ it was all apart when I got it ], they are an extension bolted in the hood I'm sure that the top pipe would clamp on it, question is when the muffler sticks up inside the extension in the hood is there something that seals it, the inside of the extension is bigger then the muffler looks like exhaust would leak under the hood if it wasnt sealed, I looked in the parts book but dont see what I'm missing, if I am missing anything

I have never seen anything that would seal in between the two even my 350D had it straight from the out put port on the muffler to the exhaust pipe support built into the hood.Dozers take a real shaking over a life time and several things are taken to the max like frame ,exhaust mount ,no fuel guage [Till later years and still get beaten to a pulp in a couple of years of sloshing ]even battery's have 30% less life expectation in a dozer than even a excavator I find small dozers shake the led plates right out of a battery.I just installed gell cell in my new 450J to see if they will last longer .I also find that a smaller dozer takes more of a shaking than a larger dozer takes I have never shook a battery apart in my 750D or 850CII but my little old 350D wide track had several new battery's installed over the years so shake is a significant enemy of a smaller dozer I feel .Digitup.

Nope, the small pipe off manifold is smaller than the extension that clamps to hood...made to break-away if you hit a branch (I did;-)

I think I may know what you're talking about
If you detach your muffler extension...the wider pipe that clamps to the hood...and you shimmy your air intake off, you should be able to remove the entire hood...
Once you do that, you should then see your exhaust manifold, attach to your muffle and then that is unified to a one foot exhaust...
BUT, if this one foot extension has been cracked off (I did this!), it will be a wobbly 1 foot piece! It won't be connected to the exhaust! And it's never supposed to be connected to the extension that is part of the hood...
You CAN have this tack welded back to the muffler and use muffler puddy or a special caulk that is used to seal hot joints...It's a bit of a hack, but a guy did this for me and it's 100%...So the one foot section should be welded to the muffler that is clamped to the manifold...

My 450c is just like what you are describing. I wondered if having the larger pipe as part of the hood over the smaller pipe of the muffler would help prevent water from running down the stack into the top of the motor.
Any rain running down the walls of the stack would miss the muffler and therefore the top of the motor completely.
