350 crawler will start!

Post by nosoup4u » Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:17 am

I finally got my 350 crawler running again, the one from the thread below. It took a young whipper snapper from the local JD industrial shop to figure it out. See if you can figure out what the problem is from the paragraph below.

This tractor probably had a backhoe on it at one time because it had two hydraulic hoses going to the back which were connected together with a large male and female coupler. I had planned to pull a box scraper with this crawler this spring, so I removed the couplers, and installed two female couplers, on which I planned to a remote cylinder when pulling the scraper. It never started after that.

Almost sounds like its was meant to be connected cause its an open spool that flows constantly and by installing two female couplers you inadverntly stopped the circulation building hydraulic pressure stopping the engine from turning at proper speed to start. But I could wrong but I,m pretty sure if the ppl here had known what was done prior to not running someone here would of figured it out long ago.

I think that is pretty close- with open center hydraulics on the crawler you have to keep it connected. When you disconnected and dead-ended, you likely blew up the Cessna pump that was driving the hydraulics.

On some crawlers (I think the 350B is one of them), the pump is front-mounted and runs off of the engine (I believe the cam). I'm guessing that also locked up your motor until you pulled and replaced the pump.
