jd350 almost toast

Post by glindy » Wed Oct 03, 2012 9:13 pm

Had to learn the hard way.''
Picked up a rops for 350,which had to have the ears welded on front arm frame,as it didn't have factory mounts. So as I welded it I was wondering where all the smoke and yellow light was coming from under the seat.
Took of the welding hood and saw the whole belly and underside of the seat with flames aglow from a welding spark.
Problem was the barn had no water supply to put it out. Luckily a neighbor had a dry fire extinguisher that worked great.
So,first thing attached to rops cage mesh was a new fire extinguisher, and next step will be pressure washing out the underside after changing all the hydraulic fluids that burn great when they soak into the dirt/trash in the belly pan.
I'm betting that if all that hyd fluid,~17g and deisel,22g,had gotten started, crawler would be pretty much melted down trash.

True, but beer time was after I finished working on it. Not to mention that would be like peeing down the heater vent on your enemies car.

Thanks for the reminder when welding on equipment. We have all made silly mistakes. No harm , no foul. On a side note, I guess your heart is in good shape with all the excitement!!!! :D

I did the exact same thing but I put mine out with a bucket of water....

After the first spark I laid a wet towel down over the area.

I.thought she was a gonner.
