Finding serial #s on a 1981 JD 350 crawler

Post by WMc » Sat Oct 06, 2012 1:18 pm

I have pulled the plate off of the crawler located at the lower part of the operator console, Its been sand blasted buy a previous owner and I cant read the #s.
'
Are there some numbers casted into the engine block like on a car motor?
'
if so where are they located.
'
I need to rebuild my injector pump, But I need the serial # to see what injector pump I have. I have pulled the tag off of the injector pump, But its been sand blasted too and I can't read it either.
'
Any help on how to find the serial # would be great.
'
Thanks in advance

The engine should have it's own tag above the starter motor on the right side. What makes you believe the machine is a 1981? If its an 81 then its a 350C. On the 350C machines the serial tags are on the front of the battery box, not down near the gearshift like on the straight 350s. Worst case scenario, the transmission case should have the serial number stamped in on its top side all the way in the back under the fuel tank. One side will have the a dimension for setting your ring/pinion and on the other side should be the serial number.

Just an FYI, I got a chance to look at one of my machines today, the serial number should be on the right side of the top of the transmission case.

Let us know what you find

It is very common for sellers to not only have the year of manufacture wrong but also the model itself. There are some major differences between a straight 350 and a 350C so you will want to be sure.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
