Type of temperature gauge?

Post by Frankdozer » Sun Nov 04, 2012 4:23 pm

My teperature gauge hasn't been working for the past summer. So I decided to start at the sending unit. I found the wire to be loose. Problem is that when I tightened the nut on the sending unit the stud turned and won't get completly tight. If I hold it on the dash gauge works. I looked up the part number in my manual for a new sending unit and found out that there are 2 different sending units depending on wether the dash gauge is Stewert Warner or VDO. My dash gauge doesn't say which it is. How can I tell which dash gauge I have? Thanks, Frank

Do you have enough thread above the nut on the sending unit to put a second nut there? If so you can super glue the first nut to the sending unit and use the top of it for the connection.

If your electrical connection is still stuck under the first nut, then I'd suggest making up a second connection with just a terminal and an inch or two of wire, sandwich it between the 2 nuts and wrap the wire around the original terminal. Then a wrap of electrical tape or a light coat of 5 minute epoxy and it should be good for another few decades, but of course that is when the sending unit will decide to die.

my opinion !

get rid of the electrical sender and put an all mecanical gauge on your unit $25.00 and it works all the time .
