coolant drain plug 350 straight

Post by andregrondin » Mon Dec 10, 2012 12:48 pm

I was looking to drain the whole coolant system from my 350 straight
because the coolant is brownish and I want to make sure that all is perfect for the next season .

1- I emptied the Rad removing top pressure cap and opening lower rad drain valve
2- removing the side drain valve from the block

But there is still coolant in there I'm sure,
I do not know how to drain the rest . any idea ?

If you have completely drained the radiator and the block, there shouldn't be any coolant left. The plug on the side of the block is at the very bottom of water jacket. There might be a tiny little bit left in the thermostat housing but it would be minimal. When you drain your radiator just make sure the cap is off of the radiator so it can drain properly. It wouldn't hurt to flush it out with some clean water before going back with new coolant.

i would pull the lower hose off of the rad. put hose in the top and run water through the rad. until clear then reinstall lower hose and with the rear plug out of the block run water through the rad. until it runs clear out of the block drain then drain rad. and fill with coolant and treatment additive
