450D undercarrage
Hello I am new to this forum, as well as new to Dozers. I just bought a 1983 deere 450D. It has the HL-R transmission seems to run and operate well with the exception of the right side final drive. I think there is a problem with the final drive bearing. I have noticed the sprocket is hitting the rear lower roller at times and has chipped some of the teeth. My question is can I remove the final drive without removing the side frame. looks pretty straight forward break track, remove sprocket, remove final assembly. What am I missing thanks for your help and advice.
I was having the same problem with my 350b. The sprocket was hitting the roller. My repair was that the bolts holding the rear cross member were loose or broken. A common problem on the Deere's. The cross member shifted about .25 inch and that caused the sprocket to hit on one side. I hope your problem turns out to be as simple.
I have a parts 350 with a bad bearing on one side. If you look at the sprocket from the back it is obvious that it leans out at the bottom, in at the top, and the seal leaks.

Bearing
I dont know if its a bearing but if I run the machine on the side if a hill with the right side down (puting more weight on the low side) It seems to cry and whine sounds like a bear eating ball bearings. I hope its not the final. Manual on order
This could still be the roller if it is worse when there is a load on it. I echo what Scott has just said too about your cross members being loose. I guess I'm just trying to be as positive as I can so you don't have to pull a final drive. If you can get the machine jacked up where the weight is off of the track, you can take a pry bar and see if it is a final bearing or a roller. It could very well be just an alignment issue as Scott has pointed out. Lets hope it is something simple for your sake!

Yes for sure I dont want to pll the drive out if I dont have to. I will get it in to the shop this week and jack it up so we can have a look. It should not be to big of a job to get the roller out? For some reason the right track is very tight? I dont know why the previous owner had it so tight but I plan to back it off some if I can. I sure thank you guys for your input,I value them and will follow your advice. Thanks again
