I bought a jd 450 (straight 450) as a basket case (engine was removed and in pieces). I am ready to put the engine back in the tractor but I have a question. It looks like the engine doesnt have any motor mounts. It looks as if the engine is mounted by 4- 5/8 bolts through the bell housing of the transmission. Is there not a motor mount to support the front of the engine? Am I missing someting here? Since I didn't remove the engine from the tractor I am at a lost here. can anyone help? The jd maual is not any help here. thanks

JD 450 engine mounts
There is no front engine mount on your 450. Amazingly they mount strictly with the four bolts you mentioned. The only time I have ever seen this design fail was in an accident where the machine went over a small bluff and fell about six feet. It landed on a solid limestone shelf and the shock cracked the bell housing. It still didn't break to the point where we couldn't drive the dozer back out of the woods.
