Somebody wanted it more than me

Post by shinnery » Thu Feb 28, 2013 6:15 pm

Was looking at a 350C with a 6-way on a purplewave dot com auction in KC, MO. http://www.purplewave.com/cgi-bin/mnlis ... 0228/F4209 But somebody needed it more than me, final bid was 7400 +10% + sales taxes. Or nearly $9000 and it was nearly 600 miles from home. My old Dodge V10 loves the current fuel prices when pulling the gooseneck trailer. I will find something closer I believe.

Judging from what I see, she was a Fire Cat at one time. Probably from the US Forest Service. Maybe from another state. I noticed the Drip Torch bracket on the right hand running board and the way the ROPS had been caged for fire fighting. Also the extra metal on the blade made it easier to push through "Slash" when pushing on a fire. It wasn't a State of MO machine as I knew each and everyone of those personally. We caged ours differently. She does look in great shape and who ever got it probably got a good machine. Needs paint but I would rather see it like that than have it painted and covering something up. You can always throw a coat of paint on it after you buy it. I don't blame you for not wanting to haul it 600 miles. But it may have been worth it in the long run. Just my opinion... only you know what you can afford, so no offense. :) Thanks for sharing the pix though!!

I really like that idea of weld on D-rings on the side for chaining it down. Anyone ever done that and had any problems?

The "D" rings work great! We were essentially forced to do this when an accident occurred where a Missouri DNR dozer came off of the trailer it was on and landed on a woman's car killing her. Bad deal all the way around. It was determined that the machine wasn't tied down properly because of a lack of tie down points. So our states Department of Public Safety along with the Federal DOT came up with the plan to make sure that everyone had proper tie down points on there equipment. We found that the "D" rings were the easiest to install and they work great! We should have been doing it all along. Now when the state orders new equipment they require the D rings to already be installed. I highly recommend them.

I was wondering if anyone on this site was following that 350- I thought about mentioning it but got pretty busy yesterday. It did look like it had nice tracks and was built for stout so was going to bid if it went a little cheaper but already have a 6-way dozer project so probably don't need another.

I actually bid on other equipment in that same auction at another location (a roller compactor) and someone wanted it more. I did win some concrete equipment that I had been needing though so worked out for me.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
