Hi all,
Had a friend sell a farm a couple years ago, and sold an old JD 1530 tractor with it that I'd done a bit of work on over the years. The current owner called me up last weekend saying the tractor "had a stuck clutch" in that he was mowing on a hill and slid down the hill then the clutch would apparently not disengage. So he adjusted the pedal up tight and went home (he doesn't live there, just visits on the weekends). Anyway, I get there the next day and the clutch seems to engage and disengage fine, albeit with a stiff pedal. He has the parts manual and the service manual but of course they were locked up but I'll get them the next time I am there.
He swore that with the pedal all the way down it would just grind when trying to go into gear, and that he had been mowing with it all day (I was thinking the clutch and pressure plate might have been rusty since the tractor sits a lot). About the only other things I can think of at the moment is if the clutch disk is hanging up on the splines, or if there is some dry place in the transmission that is out of oil (don't think so but since this happened going down a steep hill it is a slight possibility). I'll have a better idea after I RTFM.
Anyway, it is a curious issue and I suspect if there is a JD tractor forum anywhere close to the talent lurking here someone may have seen this before.
Thanks!
Mark
A ways off topic- anyone know of a Deere tractor forum?
YTMAG.com is a good one.

Currently there is a fellow restoring a early spoker.
It represents more than just Deere.
They also have a FB page as well.
