450C crawler loader water in injector pump

Post by chicken » Fri Oct 18, 2013 9:24 am

My 450 has been burning antifreeze, white smoke now and then.Put in some stop leak and it seem to fix the problem.Started it up later and lots of white smoke came out the stack and it lost power and shut down.So I thought I had lost the Injector pump.Took the pump of today and it was full of water. Now I have no ideal where the water is getting in.Any help will be appreciate My dad was a mechanic so I know just enough to get in trouble. Ken

Water or condensation in the fuel tank would be my first guess. If you have water in the pump, filters must have a lot of water in them. I would replace the filters for sure. I thought that normally water in an injection pump will smoke them in a short hurry, but maybe the rotary pumps are less susceptible, guess I don't know.

Thanks. My fuel barrel had water in when I filled it up with fuel so I must have put a lot of water in the fuel tank when I fueled up just before this happened. Will put new fuel filter etc and reinstall pump, which I hope I didn't hurt. Ken

I would drain the tank too unless you got the water out already.
