1965 350 Steering clutch problems
A buddy of mine has this machine. I've seen it in action a few times and it's a well running, operating crawler. They put new steering clutches in it a while back and even used a manual etc., but seems they must've done something wrong. Every time he goes to use it, he has to adjust The right side and it never stays right for very long. He's been adjusting it every single time he fires it up and it's becoming more hassle than it's worth. Any help or ideas?

Check the adjuster, sometimes they strip the threads out and won't hold. If it isn't the adjuster, something is really fishy.

Thanks. That would be a nice and easy fix. I really hope for his sake that's the problem cause I was thinking like you, doesnt sound like a typical problem if not. Seems like messing up on the replacement would've just broke something or seized by now. I'll pass it along and report back. Thanks again

IF it is the adjuster, he should be getting too much freeplay when it happens.

Looks like that was exactly what the problem was. Good call. Thanks for the help brotha. I had to laugh at him a lil bit though to be honest. They've been having the problem for a quite a while and never thought of that. They even have the repair and maintenance manuals. But just for the record, I didn't laugh too hard. Don't wanna jinx myself. I'm gonna help him replace em this wknd. So at least I can get some repair exp on crawlers without tearing up my own. So all good.Lavoy wrote:IF it is the adjuster, he should be getting too much freeplay when it happens.
