John Deere straight 350 popping out of 1st gear help

Post by JimmyFunk » Thu Jan 09, 2014 6:42 pm

Looking at a straight 350 runs good turns good decent undercarriage decent paint. They are asking 6000 however it pops out of first gear when driving or under a load. I know I will need first gear with it. Is this a easy fix with top cover off or a complete tear down? Thanks in advance

Complete teardown, lots of work. While you have it that far apart, you will be looking at doing any other necessary work, or preventative work. Once you have it apart, all you are looking at is parts, the labor part is already done, so that is the time to do it.
It would have to be a pretty nice crawler before I would give that knowing I had to do a tranny job.

Unless you are going to do the reverser too, consider pulling the tranny from the back. If the pins and bushings have any wear at all you can actually lean the tracks out instead of breaking them, but they have to be slack. Tranny and finals come out together, splitting behind the reverser.
