jd450b ignition switch and push start

Post by rrobinson1012 » Sun Oct 12, 2014 6:24 pm

Hello I have a 72 jd450b and need to locate a new ignition switch and push starter. I have been having issues when turning the key and randomly the machine will start. When you turn the lights on it will cut the power. Sounds like the ignition switch is going bad and figured I'd replace the push starter as well. Where is the best place to pick one up at? Thank you.

I would start with NAPA. May not be an exact replacement but they will get you going.

Had a similar problem with my 350C. I bought a replacement at Deere for about $90. Kicked myself in the a** after I looked at it.
(Assuming similar) 3 terminals, 1 for power in, 1 for accessories, and 1 for starter button. When the key is turned left only the accessories are hot, when it's turned right both the accessories terminal and power to start button terminal are hot. I would guess you could use any basic $20 switch that fits the hole.

Starter button is a simple switch, out is off, hold in is on. Probably pick up one for about $10 if it is truly bad.
