JD 450

Post by vinny » Mon Jul 20, 2015 12:39 pm

I have the opportunity to have full use of a 450 crawler with front bucket and backhoe attachment, if I'm willing to haul it home. I'm wondering about weight. I don't know year, as the machine is a half days drive away. The plate says model #7450 and the serial # is 147 W. It's made in Canada. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Not sure how to post pics on this site. Thanks in advance.

Hi Vinny-

I suspect you are reading the data plates for one of the attachments rather than the machine- the "export" machines I have seen also follow a serial number pattern similar to the U.S. ones- read this thread for what the data plate should look like- it will be somewhere near the seat base:

If the ID on your crawler's data plate is truly different because a Canadian machine, there are several Canadian crawler owners on this board (Jason B. or Digitup) that may know.

If a 450 straight crawler loader with hoe attachment you are looking at a weight of at least 7.5 to 8 tons (U.S.) and maybe more depending on bucket configuration and model of hoe.

This plate is located directly left of the instruments. I was figuring somewhere around 15000 lbs would be a safe bet. Plus the hoe attachment.

I've had my 450c with no hoe on the scales and she sits a touch over 16,000. I've got the rear counterweight which you probably do not because of the hoe but I still bet you are 17,000 to 18,000.

As others have said there are many options that effect it. Mine has a canopy and that adds close to 500 pounds.

JD450 loader weight

Post by NWJD fan » Tue Jul 21, 2015 3:16 pm

Murphy tractor shows a 1969 straight 450 loader with 1000 pound counterweight and no canopy as 15900 +/- pounds. Backhoe attachment with bucket and all associated mounting hardware is around 3000 pounds.
Loader - counterweight+ backhoe will be around 18000 pounds likely plus a canopy
