Owner's Manual JD 550 C

Post by kenart » Sun Sep 27, 2015 10:06 am

Greetings! New to the site. I have purchased a JD Crawler 550 C, around 1978 by the serial number. I am new to crawlers, and am hopeful that I could view an Operator's Manual so I can begin my initial maintenance of this machine. I did a search and found a listing of manuals, but are there any that can be viewed, and how is that done? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi,

Deere is very active regarding their copyrights, so, no, nothing to download here. They have everything on their website available in paper, CD, or download.

Thank you! I figured that was the case when I couldn't find anything, and the manuals were $100.00 + on ebay!

550c manual

Post by west25346 » Wed Sep 30, 2015 12:54 pm

First of all the dozer is a straight 550 there was no c series in the 550 line. If it was an A,or B etc. it would be listed after the 550 (example 550A C). The C designates crawler. This information is posted elsewhere on this forum.I found my manuals on Ebay a couple of years ago paid $200 for a reprint. There is an online JD parts website that lists all machines , I found it to be a good resource before purchasing the manuals. I have a 550A and love it. I had to rebuild the transmission (had no reverse when I bought it). If you had any specific areas you need information on let me know.

Thank you for the info. I found the JD web site with the searchable parts catalog. I am mainly interested in learning about operating and maintaining the machine. I operated a crawler in the woods way back in the 70's, but it wasn't my machine, therefore I didn't learn a lot about maintenance. It also was an Allison Chalmers, so it was quite different. Thanks again, I look forward to learning things from these forums.
