My jd 350 straight diesel is getting coolant into the oil. I pressurized the radiator and took the oil pan off and see no air or water leaking from the piston sleeves. Took the head off and the gasket and surfaces look good. So I am unsure how the water was getting in there. Engine ran fine even with the milky oil but that would not last long so I tore it down thinking this would be an obvious issue to spot. Where else could it be coming from

the way that happens could be pitted liners or deteriorated seals just pulled my
350 apart for low compression removed liners and seals were very pour I also
have an issue with a crack between cyl 2&3 hoping head gasket will seal enough to keep water where it belongs as their are no seals in the counter bores . you need to inspect your liners.

Engine was rebuilt just befor I purchased it. I was told the head was also rebuilt. Maybe 3 to 4 years ago when the motor was gone through. If needed I will pull the sleeves to inspect but can they be reused? Is my hope of a simple head gasket replacement a poor guess as to repairing this? The machine did always make coolant slowly disappear since I owned it. But I never found where it was going. Not like now it is obvious. Radiator was removed and pressure tested in the past and was good. I would think if a sleeve seal/ o ring failed that there would be a test method in lie of removing them? Thanks for the help guys!

Hi,
Before I pulled anything apart, I would pull the oil drain plug and leave it out with an empty pan under it. Then, I would put a modified radiator cap on and hook it to a portable air tank with cooling system operating pressure on it. See where the cold coolant comes out.

Well it sounds like the experts here think the sleeves need to come out for further investigation. Although I saw no visible sign of leak with the coolant system pressurized.... I will yank the sleeves tonight and let you know what I see. Thank you all!
