450C will not stay running
450C will not stay running
Have a 450C been excavating a pond with a Ashland 2 1/2 yard scraper lately it looses RPM's and shuts off yet it will restart and do the same thing.
Have drained crud from tank replaced filters six times removed all lines and blown out with air. Anyone had a situation like this and has found a solution ?
Found a pump online I was going to replace with and made the purchase for a good price but I got a call they called and did not have any in stock. So I am
not for sure the IP is the problem Any advice would be help full .

Re: 450C will not stay running
There's a check valve in the fuel line on top of the injector pump. It looks like a brass fitting but they go bad and will stop the machine. Your JD dealer should have it in stock and it is quite inexpensive.

Re: 450C will not stay running
It's the injector pump, the pellathane governor ring is coming apart and probably clogging the the check valve. Temporary fix is to remove the check valve and clean the mouse turds out of it. Search "Mouse Turds" This is somewhat of a common problem.

Re: 450C will not stay running
already took the check valve and it was clean. Was going to pull the pump and take it to a local shop where I had two other pumps done but guess I will give your tips a try .I will also check the timing widow for mouse turds.

If it is the governor ring, you might consider replacing with the updates dampner ring, Stanadyne # 29111. Got mine from usdiesel.

Re: 450C will not stay running
If you're going to tear down the injector pump, you'll find about a zillion pieces in there. Suggestions: lay out parts on your bench in the order in which it's dismantled and take lots of pictures. I did the pump for a JD 1010 and found it a bit challenging. I think there's a tool for compressing the oring seal on the shaft when you install the pump back into the engine. If you damage that seal, you'll get diesel fuel into your oil. Also, when you bar the engine to time it, turn it only in the direction that it turns when running. Do not turn it backwards if you go past the marks. It will not be accurately timed. Good luck!!!

Re: 450C will not stay running
FYI, Tool for compressing the seals on the shaft when installing the pump is a stanadyne 13369. Look at the pilot tube (Stanadyne 16320) inside the body if it's badly grooved you'll want to replace it. You'll know if it's badly grooved when you remove the pump, it'll act like its stuck on the shaft when in reality the hardened shaft seals are hanging on the pilot tube.

Re: 450C will not stay running
When I had diesel 350s and 450s, I came to the same conclusion: Pay the experts to rebuild the injection pumps. Usually wound up saving time and money, and a lot of aggravation. Made back the extra costs fairly quickly through gained productivity. Best regards. Hope you get your machine back on line quickly

Re: 450C will not stay running
I needed to get my pump rebuilt on my 450C and the rebuilder said someone had it apart and things were not in the right order so if you rebuild one yourself it don't just take it apart in order for reassembly because it might not be right from the start.
Re: 450C will not stay running
took it to a local shop had two others done their pricy but good to go when installed
