The clutches are dry on mine as well. It is the later versions, C I think, that have the wet clutch and certainly the 450's.

My books, and I have the operators, service, and parts manuals don't seem to show anywhere what the diameter of the disc are and I'm getting conflicting reports from several different 'JD in the know' sources.

It would be great if Lavoy does have that sleeve. Still looking to hear on the parts status. I'll see if I can touch base with notmeu as you mentioned below.

Thanks dtools1

So I just met a guy today in the town I am in who has a JD1010 crawler with blade. Needless to say we hit it off and could have talked all weekend. He had been through all this with his crawler when he bought it ages ago and began to show me some of the stuff he has. Dang if a LOT of stuff on the 1010 is interchangeable with the 350-b.... like... for instance... steering clutches..... go figure!. He's not part'n it out mind you.... he still uses it.

dtools1.... it turns out the jd7 gauge is the same one he uses for his 1010 which uses the same steering clutch and brake assembly as the 350-b. I'm beginning to think that is the same gauge to use on the 350-b. His gauge was a bit beat up beyond reuse. Also.... this guy used to communicate through this forum lots of years ago. I have no idea what name he used here as I didn't think to ask as I was conversing with him. As it turns out... he knows he has a complete clutch pack (brand new) in his arsenal but he has no idea where it is at this time. Hopefully he can find it before I take the plunge and purchase everything.

dtool1... just out of curiosity, do you attend the big engine show that goes on every year in Portland Indiana? It's coming up week after next. Lavoy... if you happen to catch this... this guy I met said he thought you attended the show as well in the past or perhaps someone representing jdcrawlers? Man if both of you go to this I'd like to meet up with ya.... it's in my back yard. For that matter... anyone in this forum that may be attending that show (biggest in the mid west) I'd like to meet up with ya. Maybe we could get a whole flock of JDCrawler owners together in one place... wouldn't that be a hoot!

dtools1,

I just put a new post/thread at viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11785 covering all the information about the show and the possibility of having a get together for all jdcrawler members who may be attending it. Hope it's the right place to have put it and everyone sees it.

Lavoy, let me know if it should go elsewhere.

Fibers are .175-.181, steel .090-.096. Pressure plate has to be adjusted once assembled to get correct finger height. I just got a bunch of gauges done, had been out of stock. Normally keep all the steering clutch parts on hand, on occasion do get sold out of one piece or another.

Before we built out pin press, we removed a few pads (4 is best) and then lined the master pin up on the rear upward 10 or 2 oclock on the final drive and then cut a piece of pipe that just fits between the final drive housing and the master pin (large enough for the master pin to clear). We then used a pin driver with a 5 foot handle while the other guy hammered the pin out. We often would need to use a bit of heat.

We also use a large roller chain clamping device to keep the track links together if they are worn to line them up better. Its was a factory built unit that a local railroad company used to connect large roller chain. We now use this in combination with our press to give better line up on worn tracks and have ground the shoulders off slightly on many sizes of pins so we have very good line up before installing the master pins.
