450 versus 450cc

Post by nelstomlinson » Sat Nov 30, 2019 10:59 pm

I recently got a second jd450 loader, but this one says it's a 450cc, my first is a 450c. I'm wondering what the difference is between them.

The best I can say is the base crawler may have originally been equipped with a 6405, six-way blade. According to the introduction section of the JD 450C Crawler Bulldozer parts book a "C" in the fifth position was the designation for the 6 way blade. The 450C Crawler Loader parts book introduction says an "A" in the fifth position designates a loader. Does your first machine have an "A" in the fifth position of the serial number? It will be interesting to see if there is another option designation.

Oops, looks as if my memory is failing me. I have photos of both SN plates, and neither is as I remembered.

First loader: Type 450CA, SN 224773T
Second Loader: Type 450CA, SN 248894T

The first has a regular loader bucket, the second has a clam shell bucket.

I wonder where I got that 450CC idea? Maybe it's the decal on the side? I'll have to look again. Maybe the previous owner put on dozer decals?

That A in 450CA is what indicates loader, right?

I wish this second machine were a dozer - I really don't need two loaders.

According to the parts catalog the "A" means it left the factory equipped with a loader.

Hi,

The letter in the fifth spot denotes what came on the crawler. It doesn't show up anywhere other than on the S/N plate. Your decals ought to be just 450C. But, it is easy to get things mis-remembered like that!

And, I originally said 'fifth column' instead of 'fifth spot', but that didn't sound so good! :P
