Suction screen?

Can anyone tell me if there is suppose to be an oring where the suction screen connects inside a 550 transmission. I just pulled one on a machine I picked up and it appears that it had one there but jd part diagrams do not show one there. Anyone have experience with this, thanks

As far as I know there is no O-ring. The screen is a preliminary filter in that it only keeps the large debris from entering the system. You will have a primary transmission filter that actually cleans the fluid. So most screens won't have a need to be completely sealed. I have only ever been inside one 550 transmission and that's been about a hundred years ago!! Still, I'm pretty certain there will be no O-ring.
