Keep track pin in place
Keep track pin in place
On my 350 B we had to take the track apart to overhaul the steering clutches. Could not find a “master“ pin so we picked one pin, heated it and drove it out with a steel drift and lots of pounding with a BFH. So far so good. We did the work we needed to do and got the track to realign using a heavy chain and a ratcheting tiedown boomer. I had buffed the pin to a shine, and we wire brushed the insides of the links, so when we got the holes aligned, I put some grease on the pin and it drove in nicely with a few taps of the hammer. Now my mechanic is worried that the pin will work its way out too easily and is wanting to spot weld the pin to the link. Is that a real concern? Is there a better way to keep that pin in place? Some kind of a retainer clip or something? Gorilla tape?
Re: Keep track pin in place
If you buffed the pin and link enough that it went in with a few taps from a hammer, I would be welding it.

just for laughs..try super glue????
should probably spot both sides of track
should probably spot both sides of track

Actually, I’m wondering if a squirt of silicone on each end would keep it in place. Every place else it’s not supposed to be, it’s always super hard to remove
Re: Keep track pin in place
would tend to think that dirt, gravel, tree limbs and whatnot would clean that up quik..aeach side be a bit more secure
