Hello, I'm fairly new on this forum but have been lurking around reading for a while. I recently bought a John Deere 350 from a local scrap yard and am putting it back together. The Idler wheels are kinda shot. The flanges are worn and busted, someone else plated them and those are worn.
My thought for saving them is to scarf the old flanges and repairs flat and roll a ring out of 3/4" flat stock 1 3/4" wide and weld that solid ring in the flanges place. I have been welding for years and have access to the stuff I need and it would cost me almost nothing.
My question are: Has anyone done anything similar? Are my guesstimated measurements of 3/4" thick by 1 3/4" wide close to the thickness and outside to outside width measurements of those flanges before they are worn?
Thanks in advance.
Jeremy

Re: Idler Wheel Repair
Did something similar on a 40C. Width WITH WELD BEAD must be less than space between inner and outer links in the rail (chain) probably by about 1/2". The adjust centering per manual.
Early 40C w/Yakima toolbar and homebuilt ripper: 350 w/6-way
