Transmission Oil Common Sump Question
Transmission Oil Common Sump Question
I have rebuilt the steering clutches on my 76 450C and it has a common sump. Daft question (probably) but do i need to fill each side with oil separately? (using the fill holes located at 12 oclock above the rear sprockets on the sides)? or can i just fill them by filling through the transmission filler (the round cap with the dipstick under the seat)? Help would be appreciated.
Re: Transmission Oil Common Sump Question
You can fill them through the transmission fill port but it takes longer for the oil to reach the final drives. It is quicker if you fill each side individually and then fill the transmission. Either way is okay however.

Re: Transmission Oil Common Sump Question
Thanks for the reply! you dont happen to know the size of the drain bolts on the bottom of the steering clutch sumps? one of them is rounded off and i forgot to grab the other to take into the shop to get a replacement. The are allen/hex head pipe plugs (as we call them) but just dont know the size.
Re: Transmission Oil Common Sump Question
Its OK, found the size in the manual, 1/2 Inch Hex Plug.
