Foot throttle

Post by 1983m35a2 » Thu Jul 31, 2025 12:49 pm

Did any of the early 450’s come with a foot throttle or as a add on?

The earliest I remember seeing were on 450Ds and they were a decelerator and not an accelerator. I've only ever seen one accelerator on a dozer and that was on a little known Walden built in the middle 2000s.

I was referring to a decelerator, I saw it referred to as a foot throttle while searching online. I wasn’t sure of the official name. Would having a decelerator be beneficial enough to make one for a 450B dozer? I have had a 450B loader for 10 years and not much need to adjust the engine rpm on it as you really can do finish work with it. I just acquired a dozer that needs work so I haven’t ran a dozer much yet.

I have never been a big fan of decelerators. I liked them on loaders because you do more kinds of work that requires a lot of throttling. But, me being a mechanic more than an operator probably has a lot to do with me not liking them much. All of the operators I worked around and serviced their equipment loved them. Both on loaders and dozers.

To answer your question, I would say it just depends on how much you personally would like to have the option of a decelerator. You certainly won't know until you try it.
