450 c j

Post by altonlee » Mon Nov 24, 2025 6:38 am

I have a 1982 450 c j john deere. Now I have been told there is no 450s made with the c and j on one machine.
I need a new hydraulic pump and am finding it hard to find a fit.
If any one knows where i can find one or have this one rebuilt, please let me know.

Don't be surprised to find this thread has been moved to the Late Models Board by a moderator once they see it. posts about 350s, 450s, and any models newer belong on the Late Models board.

A 1982, 450 would be a 450 (model) C (series), not just a 450, as there is no space between the 450 and the C, you have a 450C. The serial number should look like 450C J ###### (or 450-C J ######). According to the introduction document with the online parts catalog the J means it left the factory as a drawbar crawler with no dozer blade (the letter for a blade would be C, D, or E depending on which blade). (The 450C loaders used an A. I think.)

To further clarify actual identification of your crawler. Looking at your past posts, it looks like your serial number is 450C J 228579 (or 450-C J 228579), unless this is a different crawler. That is a serial number for a 1975 450C drawbar crawler, not a 1982 crawler. Do you have the Technical Manual JD publication number TM1108? It looks like you were using a straight 450 manual in the past, which does not have the correct info in some areas.

I would expect to find the smallest offer hydraulic pump offered on a drawbar machine, 15 GPM, I believe. The unknow would be if it was originally purchased set up to use with some specific hydraulic equipment that might need higher volume hydraulic flow. I don't know hydraulic shops in your area (Texas?) but most any shop that does hydraulic pump repairs should be able to help you. Have you checked with your JD dealer? Ask local contractors about hydraulic shops they use.

The parts page linked below would be the pump for a 450C prior to serial number 380045. It gives you part numbers and a pump number if it is what you have.
