555G Rebuild Questions
555G Rebuild Questions
Hello, I have a 2000 model 555G with roughly 4300 hours on it. The engine is using oil & has blow by, so I'm gearing up for having the engine rebuilt. What else should I consider doing while the engine is out of the machine? Also, would buying a new replacement engine be an option?? All thoughts appreciated.... Thanks - Bruce
Re: 555G Rebuild Questions
Before the engine is taken down, I would say you should do at least the pressure tests for the driveline and hydraulics to get an idea of condition to see what may need attention. Ideally the flow tests should be done as well. The Operation and Test manual (TM1403) will have the procedures and special tools needed for testing and operational checks of the engine, transmission/driveline, and hydraulics. The Repair manual (TM1404) will have wrenching info and special tools needed for repairs. You need both manuals, a 555G is not near as simple as the green crawlers or even the 350s and 450s. It should be cleaned then run a bit to look for leaks and loose hardware.
Re: 555G Rebuild Questions
Jim B, Thank you so much for the guidance & suggestions. I will acquire the manuals & do the testing.
