Here's the process I used:
1. Clean mud/dirt from bolt heads on track pads so you can get a socket on the old track bolts.
2. Remove old track pads; each pad is attached with four 1/2" - 20 bolts. Generally not difficult, but once in a while one bolt will give you trouble.
3. Use a wire brush on a large angle grinder to clean the track chain where the track pad contacts it.
4. Use a carbide scraper and angle grinder with a flap disk to remove the paint from the bottom of the new track pads where they will contact the track chain. Also remove the paint from the area around the bolt holes on the top of the new track pads. If you don't remove the paint - which is quite thick - once it wears off, your track bolts will be a bit looser than they were when installed.
5. Install new track pads on track chain with four 1/2 - 20 bolts. These are made by ITR for this application, and installed dry (i.e., no anti-seize or thread locker) per the manufacturer. Snug them down a bit.
6. Torque the track pad bolts to 48 ft lbs.
7. Tighten the bolts an additional 120 degrees (1/3 turn) - again, this is the ITR spec.
8. There are 72 track pads, so repeat 71x.
Very tedious job. I'm about halfway done.
