HLR is driving me crazy

ok i have posted here before but its been so long figured better start fresh, dozer has been out of operation for a long time- brief story, dozer is a JD 450D was excellent would spin the tracks tore it down due to a horrible oil leak,(seal came out from the oil pump tube), had the little mystery ball drop out upon repair, we have put the ball in under/over/behind even not at all as it appears our cover was never drilled for a ball(not sure why it was in there) cannot get the pressure over 60psi with shims, adjusting the clutch pedal ,ect. have followed the book to the T and still only 60 psi. we stacked so many pennies that you could barely screw the plug back in on the regulator valve, no change. we are determined to get this thing fixed as we need it around the farm... JD dealer has been no help all those guys long gone by now. what are we missing when we pushed the tube in for the oil pump could we have covered a hole up? honestly at a lose , we have pulled the engine 4x and rechecked lots of things but no avail. any help would be appreciated

So where exactly did you discover this ball? The only ball I can think of that might have an influence on your pressures is in the Clutch Oil Manifold. I don't know how that could have gotten out of place but it is the only thing that I can think of that might have an influence on your pressure.

Usually if one doesn't want to pressure up means you have a blown seal in a clutch pack. I'm wondering if you don't have deeper issues that blew your pump seal to begin with.

so the steel ball im referring fell out when we were working on the front cover my dad pulled the valve out to make sure everything was clean and it fell out, but we have tried everyway putting it in and leaving it out with no big changes. this is the ball that goes according to the jd shop manual in the side of the front transmission cover but yet the parts diagram shows it dropping in from the top , some say its a check valve, some covers were drilled for it , some were not, as for the pressure in the clutch pack it was great until we pulled the front cover to change the seal and the ball fell out, however what's so odd is from what we can find is that our cover not being drilled was not supposed to use a ball however this dozer does have a winch so maybe it used it anyways... what are your thoughts

I saw the ball you're referring to in the parts diagram. Unfortunately I no longer have my books on these 450's and it has been way too long since I was last inside one of them. But... I think that ball goes in from the top as it is shown and then there should be a regulating valve go in over the top of the ball with a spring and plug behind that.

I know this isn't much help if any. But for me to be able to figure it out I almost need to be there at the machine. Like I said it's been probably thirty years since I was last in one of these.

Since you say you had pressure before the seal issue I'm thinking your pressure loss is related to this ball and the regulating valve. Again I know you have probably already figured that out and I'm of no help. I apologize for not being able to help you out dude. I know this is frustrating.
