I've just replaced all the seals in my final drive and steering clutches, I did have a leak that caused the steering housings to fill up with oil and leak through the top plate. I've checked multiple times as I reassembled and have no leaks however my steering chambers continue to fill with oil as I run. I'm now thinking I might also have a return blockage, my understanding is that with the common sump, there is a path back from the chamber to the main sump that allows the oil to return. This does not seem to be happening, even sitting overnight the levels stay high in the chambers. When looking at the chambers, I can only see a 1/2" hole that seems to have no purpose between the steering housing and the main center chamber. Is that the drain/oil return? My understanding also is that there should be flow into the chambers, I think 1.6gpm, it seems unlikely that I can return 1.6gpm through a 1/2" hole. Any other thoughts on what might be causing this?
Thanks in advance

thereelking — to be fair, I'm no 450E expert, more an MGB and old bike bloke... but before you go blaming that half-inch hole, how did you work out the 1.6gpm figure? Is that from the book, or did you measure it off the pump? And when you say the chambers fill as you run, how long before they're brim full — minutes or hours? Might point to whether it's a return problem or something still being pushed in that shouldn't bethereelking wrote:Is that the drain/oil return?
