450B

Post by RedGreen » Fri Apr 24, 2015 7:35 am

Hi all I am new here and seems like there is a lot of knowledge. I have a 450b crawler and it needs a steering clutch. Tried to remove track tension by removing the square head bolt with jam nut and nothing happened. So I cut the track pin and removed the track. Track frame had a broken bolt where the front cross member attaches and I wanted to fix that. Well in order to get frame off I need to remove the tensioner piston... how can I do this? Tried wrapping a chain and pulling it with a ratchet binder to blade, and tried turning with 4 foot pipe wrench. Any tips/tricks to getting it away from spring holder? What is best place to buy parts for these? Need piston and all clutch parts. Thanks Matt

There should be a set screw under the bolt you removed, but not always. Stick an allen wrench down in there and see if you find one. If so, back it out a few turns, then the grease will come out.
I must be missing something, once the track is split, the whole idler assembly and adjuster should slide forward I thought. As far as getting the piston out of the barrel, put a grease gun on it and jack it out, far and away the easiest way.

Lavoy I'm trying to get the piston out of the spring end not the front idler/adjuster end. Is this the proper way to reply to a persons response? Is there a way to respond to just their response or like I am doing now? Also what is the best way to add pictures? A picture is worth a thousand words right? Thank you so much Matt

I sent photo from my phone to my email and copy and pasted it in here. See if this works  The front cross member(behind the pipe wrench) hits the piston when I slide the track frame out. Need to remove piston.

Hi,

Can't use a photo host using https. Meaning secured. I mean with IMG tags.

A link to an https host is ok, as you posted. Except this one needs an ID and password...

I suspect you need to make the pic public on you host site, and then it won't need an ID and PW.
