350 pilot bearing

Post by gerald » Fri Jun 19, 2015 9:24 am

I rebuilt my 350 steering clutching 3 years ago and used to clear my land for a house with great success, It set for 2 years and started right up. It would only steer to the right nothing on the left , after taking everything apart I find the pilot bearing froze up. It looks like something I can get local . If any one has a pilot bearing number for 1970 350 crawler steering clutch . I would appreciate it. thank Gerald.

jtrichard you are correct on the pilot bearing. I cleaned my old bearing with tooth past the 8502 showed up ,I hope to get a bearing in town. The bearing locked up and I lost all my steering on that side. The clutches plates where rusty and the disk looked new . I hope that was my trouble . I have the tool to set the pressure plate, I don't remember how to set the plate but I have a manual. Would the bearing be the culpert for the steering not working? Thank you Gerald.

don't think the bearing could hold that much i would say the plates have/had enough rust to keep them from releasing i would bead blast both the fibers and the steels and then reassemble as for how to adjust use the gauge and set the fingers to where they just touch the gauge

Jt I walked in to local auto parts with the old 8502 bearing the guy came back quick with national 202 ffb that looked to be the same bearing. Right about the clutch being rusty with a lot of dust.

I have every thing cleaned up and ready to assembly but the bull gear is really sloppy rubbing the oil pan there was lot of metal flakes where the gear is rubbing a 2 inch area in the bottom of the pan . It was that way 3 years ago when I rebuilt the steering and installed a used pinon. What could be the reason the gear is rubbing the pan? I don't have a oil leak so I,m ruling out a seal. Thank you Gerald.
