adjusting steering clutch and brake

Post by markmc60 » Fri Jul 10, 2015 8:14 am

I have my JD manual and it is clear as mud,
I am adjusting my new steering clutch and brakes.
the manual says to set he levers out at 2" and adjust the clutch adjusting rod to remove all free travel, does that mean to set the throw out bearing at touch point of the steering clutch pressure plate fingers?, if so, then I loose all my "range of travel" to engage the steering clutch before I start moving the brake band. if I follow the poorly written direction I barely engage the throwout bearing which barely dis-engages the steering clutch.

any suggestions?

YES with levers blocked, snug the bearing to the fingers then you should be-able to pull the lever back about another 4 inches before the brake band is tight
