Need help!!! Discontinued filter???

Post by Toofarnorth » Mon Jul 13, 2015 3:57 pm

I drained the hydraulic fluid in my tank to replace the ruined mesh screen suction filter on my straight 350. No part numbers on the old filter. All parts stores and JD dealer give me the return filter and nothing on the suction filter.

Can anyone give me a part number I can use to order one???

I don't want to put it together without it!!!

All of the older 350s I was ever around did not have a suction filter or screen. There was just a feed tube going directly to the pump. They did have a return oil filter or screen. I will ask around but I don't think you will have one.

My parts book shows 2 filters prior to 65 at24274 element filter 7 1/4"
and after 65 at45422 return line filter 9 1/2"

The service manual shows 2 filters but no explanation

If you were at an ag dealer they have little or no information on the industrial equipment. an industrial ,yellow , dealer would have access to the parts you need

Ran into this on the second 350. Search for a part number of AU14022, its basically a screen. No idea why some have and some don't. Or when it got added or deleted from production. And if Leonard hasn't seen one then they must be rarer then hen's teeth. Only way I could find it is in the 350 loader or the 6305 dozer for the 350 crawler parts book, different book then the machine. My loader does not have one. Go figure.

Thank you. :D I wasn't saying they didn't exist because they obviously do. This fellow has one and you have one of them as well. I personally have never seen a suction side filter on a 350 or a 450. Only the return side.

I talked to a friend of mine who goes back even further than I do on these small crawlers and he remembered some of the first generation 350s and 450s having these screens. He thought they were maybe a hold over from the older machines or an option or something Deere was fooling with and then decided they weren't needed.
I personally would have liked seeing something on the suction side of the system. There is always trash getting in the tanks so a screen makes sense to me. However most manufactures eventually went to all return side filters. Basically because the return side is either low pressure or no pressure oil.
If you look however, the 350 suction tubes are risen off of the bottom of the tank and unless you have something floating around suspened in the tank, it most likely won't get pulled into the pump. Their theory is, it will either float on top of the oil or sink to the bottom of the tank.
There is always something to learn on these old machines. I've been a round a lot of them and continue to learn things I didn't know. This is one of them.

Hi,

In the FWIW dept., my 1968 350 didn't have a tank screen.
